The Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center is thrilled to invite the public to the Wellsboro Art Club’s latest exhibit, “This Land is Our Land.” On display in the Main Gallery from October 17 through November 8, 2026, the showcase will highlight vibrant creativity as club members unveil explorations into a fresh variety of art mediums and techniques. Visitors will be inspired by a wide range of local works, including watercolor, acrylic, and oil landscapes that capture the spirit of the Tioga Wilds and historic Wellsboro. These pieces span everything from the dramatic vistas of the Pine Creek Gorge to the nostalgic charm of the town’s iconic gas-lit streets. The collection is further enriched by dazzling displays of glass, fiber art, sculpture, and innovative mixed media.

An opening reception will be held on Saturday, October 17, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. The event is free and open to the community. Attendees will have the opportunity to mingle with local artists, enjoy delicious refreshments provided by the club, and get a first look at the beautiful pieces filling the gallery.

This year’s theme, “This Land is My Land,” serves as a special nod to the 2026 semiquincentennial—the 250th anniversary of the United States. It also honors the club’s 3rd annual Wellsboro Wilds Plein Air Competition & Festival, which took place from September 10–13 at the Gmeiner. The outdoor festival invited artists and art lovers to gather in Wellsboro to paint, observe works in progress, and celebrate the local landscape. Proceeds from that event support the historic club’s annual scholarship, which is awarded to a local high school senior pursuing a college degree in the arts.

Founded in 1948 by a small group of passionate local painters, the Wellsboro Art Club has blossomed into a diverse and dynamic collective that welcomes crafts and fine arts of all kinds. Today, the club is a vibrant nonprofit organization committed to celebrating local art and inspiring community creativity. Formal club meetings are held at 10:00 AM on the first Thursday of each month in the Gmeiner Studio. Informal studio sessions take place on the second, third, and fourth Thursdays of the month from 10:00 AM to noon, offering a friendly, collaborative space for artists to work and connect.
