The Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center is pleased to announce, “Visions of the Landscape: From Arthur Gmeiner to the Pine Creek Rail Trail,” a unique two-phase exhibition. This special event honors the Pine Creek Rail Trail’s designation as Pennsylvania’s official “Trail of the Year” while bringing the historic roots of the region’s art center full circle. Ultimately, the collection explores how a shared love for North Central Pennsylvania’s environment connects artists across generations.

To honor center founder Arthur Gmeiner’s vision, this collection pairs his classic regional landscape paintings with stunning contemporary photography. Local photographers bring the historic trail to life by capturing its spirit, diverse seasonal landscapes, native wildlife, and vibrant community.

Arthur Gmeiner was a passionate advocate for regional creative expression who deeply loved painting local scenery and dreamed of cultivating a thriving, accessible arts community. He endowed and built the Gmeiner, which opened in 1969 to establish a free gallery and cultural hub for the public in memory of his family. This led to the creation of the Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center on the Green Free Library property. Today, the center operates as a non-profit dedicated to the Wellsboro community, deeply committed to cultivating the link between art, culture, and community.

By pairing timeless works of the past with the photographic lenses of today, this exhibition directly fulfills his original mission. While the gallery space allows local artists to share their work, the center’s studio space serves as a dynamic hub for creatives to congregate. In addition to hosting monthly art exhibits, the Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center serves as the proud meeting home for several regional community groups, including the Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild, the Grand Canyon Photography Club, and the Wellsboro Art Club.

The exhibition will take place in two distinct phases:

Admission to both phases is free and open to the public. For more information and upcoming events, please visit the Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center website https://gmeinerartculturalcenter.org
