The Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center is delighted to announce its upcoming Atrium gallery exhibition, “250 Celebration Quilt: Community Art Squared.” This unique community installation will open on Saturday, August 15, and run through Sunday, September 6.

To celebrate the opening, a public reception will be held on Saturday, August 15, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Attendees will have the opportunity to view these collaborative artworks, meet local creators, and enjoy light refreshments.

The exhibition highlights two remarkable, community-driven projects built on regional collaboration and creative spirit to commemorate the nation’s semiquincentennial milestone.  The first, the Veterans Fabric Quilt, was designed to honor local service members by inviting community members of all ages into the studio for hands-on workshops in July, where participants designed individual fabric squares. Volunteers from PATCH (Providing Aid Through Creative Handiwork)—a branch of the Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild—then beautifully pieced and stitched the squares into a cohesive charity quilt that will be donated to a local veteran’s organization following the exhibition.

The second project, the Paper Story Quilt, is an interactive entry-wall installation that explores what it means to be part of a community, featuring handmade paper squares crafted by area residents and local children, including participants from Hamilton-Gibson’s summer ARTS camps and Trinity Summer Camp. Celebrating both individual regional stories and the nation’s milestone 250th birthday, the entire installation reflects a shared local identity. “This exhibition proves that everyone can leave a meaningful creative mark on our region, piece by piece,” said Gmeiner Director Melina Moyer. “Each individual square created this July,  tells a unique story that beautifully reflects our community’s diverse history, personal memories, and shared heritage.”

The Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center is located at 134 Main Street, Wellsboro, PA (behind the Green Free Library). The galleries are open to the public from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Tuesday through Sunday. Admission to the exhibit and the opening reception is free.
